Long ago I came across a small watercolour by Albert Namatjira and was immediately mesmerised by the beauty and clarity of the scene.  Minimal splashes of light and shadow, but you knew they were mountains.  The transparency of the colours drew me in and I stood for a very long time seeing the outback through the eyes of someone with a deep connection and love of the land.

That painting inspired my interest in art and ever since then I have been hooked on the medium.  Although not formally trained, I enjoy the encouragement of an informal art group and have expanded my interest to include pastels and acrylics – but watercolours remain my first love!  It is frustrating when the mental vision fails to translate on paper but enormously satisfying when it “works”.
